![]() A collective sigh of relief was heard over the Labour Day weekend as teachers discovered that their initial September pay was deposited. Not only are our 8% pay cheques twice the size of our usual 4% ones, they are larger for other reasons as well. But the news isn’t all rosy... let’s take a closer look.

The increase in Vision Care to $250 every two years creates an anomaly in coverage that could cause some confusion. Teachers who have made a recent claim for the previous maximum of $200 must still wait until the end of a two year period before making a new claim. The additional $50 entitlement as of September 1st could be accessed for an eye exam. However, such a claim would start another two-year period before making a new claim for that $50 entitlement. There would now be two benefits periods in effect - one for the previous $200 coverage and another one for the $50 amount. It will only get more complicated next September when the coverage increases again. In some ways, it might be simpler to just let the previous 2-year window elapse before making a new claim for whatever full amount is available at that time. |

Members do not have automatic entitlement to Personal Leave. Such leaves are subject to approval of the principal and that approval will not be forthcoming unless the rationale for the leave meets certain criteria that are spelled out on the application form. |
