Two opportunities have become available at the District 14 TBU.

With the appointment of Gary Fenn as interim First Vice President, his present position as Third Vice President is now open.  This position will be appointed by TBU Council on January 28, 2009.  Anyone interested in the position should contact the District Office before that date.

Also, with the departure of Randy Banderob, his role as liaison to the Trent Faculty of Education also needs to be filled.  The ideal candidate would have a strong interest in Federation and Teacher Candidate / Associate issues and be willing to attend meetings both locally and in Toronto.  If you are interested in this position, please contact Marc Silnicki at the District Office.

ImageThe Canadian Labour Congress has announced the second phase of their campaign to ensure that all MPs hear the voices of workers as the government prepares to present its budget on January 27, 2009. This campaign is a nation-wide lobbying effort to ensure that an economic stimulus package is included in the budget that will create and protect jobs, invest in public services, help the forestry and automotive sectors, protect pensions and permit urgently needed changes regarding Employment Insurance.
Two weeks of radio ads that began January 5 are running on radio stations across the country urging Canadians to speak to their MPs and keep up the pressure to address the economic measures needed in the budget. Provincial federations of labour will also be lobbying Premiers and territorial leaders prior to their scheduled meeting with the Prime Minister on January 16.

Wednesday, 17 December 2008
Image    I am very happy to share some wonderful news with the membership: Randy Banderob has accepted a position as a secretariat member with Provincial OSSTF. Those of us that know Randy's talents and dedication can clearly understand why he was chosen for the position. Randy's departure from District 14 creates a two vacancies.

The position of TBU First Vice-President, which is a release position, will need to be filled.  Bylaw B5.1.10 of the TBU Constitution outlines the process to be followed if the First Vice-President is unable to carry out their duties. It is the duty of the TBU Executive to appoint a member of the TBU Executive to carry out the duties of the First Vice-President. I am calling a special meeting of the TBU Executive for January 14 beginning at 4:30 pm to appoint a TBU First Vice-President.

Also, the vacancy of the position of District Secretary will also need to be addressed. Article A5.1.3.3 of the District 14 Constitution prescribes how this vacancy is to be filled. The District 14 Executive will fill the vacancy by appointment. In order to fill the position I am calling a meeting of the District 14 Executive for January 14 beginning at 4:00 pm. The position of District Secretary is open to any District 14 member. Please share this information with your members and ask any member who is interested in being considered  for the position to please contact me at the District Office.

- Marc Silnicki, OSSTF District 14 and TBU President
